This was the start of strong business partnership and Open House Pictures launched at the end of 2018, offering video production services to businesses.
One of the things that makes Open House Pictures stand out from the crowd is their approach to film making and obvious joy of storytelling that has become their USP – depicting not only products, services and brand of the businesses they work with, but they also managing to capture the journey, culture and sense of personality of the businesses too.
“We knew the market for videos would be content that captured audience’s attention and drew them to want to know more.”
Through the Sheffield Hallam University Enterprise Team, Open House Pictures as SHU Students (Graduates & Alumni) were offered start-up business advice and access to key business skills workshops, free office and studio space, and the chance to network with other entrepreneurs.
“Before setting up Open House Picture we had no prior knowledge in how to operate a business successfully. Being able to attend those workshops in the early stages enabled us to fully connect with what was required to run our business. Also having regular 1-2-1 meetings with Rob King, one of the Business Advisers at the i-Labs, on a monthly basis to receive more direct business support. The advice and help we have received at the i-Labs is second to none and is a crucial reason why we have reached the stage we are at now.”
In May 2020, Open House Pictures joined the ScaleUp 360 Business Growth Programme, also based out of the Hallam i-Lab. ScaleUp 360 is providing tailored support to a diverse range of entrepreneurs, start-ups and established businesses with the ambition and potential to scale up.
Open House Pictures are now able to tap into fully funded 1-2-1 specialist business advice, mentor support, business growth focused workshops and access to investment opportunities. This is a key part of Sheffield Hallam University’s strategy to support SME’s through all development stages.
2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic changed the business landscape dramatically since the start of the year. Rather than retreating or putting plans on hold, Dan and Joe of Open House Pictures have shown tremendous courage and compassion for local business.
First by asking, how can we help? Using their social media and business networks, they put out regular updates on businesses that were still open and operating. Highlighting businesses that had pivoted to support supply chains and making connections and introductions.
Secondly by asking, how can we support? Open House Pictures recognized that a number of businesses needed to shift their business messaging and communications online and the importance of reaching out to your audience.
In response, Open House Pictures developed their Video Marketing Relief Scheme to support businesses to get creative about telling their own stories and speaking directly to their customers through film. Dan and Joe are encouraging businesses to pick up their phones, tablets, and cameras; alongside Dan and Joe’s guidance, editing and production expertise to produce professional and affordable online content from just £55.
